Lunar Films

David Mackenzie & Matthew Justice
outside La Colombe D'Or in St Paul de Vence
I have mentioned our Executive producer, Matthew Justice, before, I'm sure, but I don't think I have ever actually included a link to the Lunar Films site before. These guys are involved in lots of exciting projects and are well worth taking a look at.

I also met Lee Thomas in Cannes, Matthew's right-hand man and all round good bloke. Lee, as a few others of you have, has been providing me with lots of tips about how to make getyourpeople a better place to visit, so many thanks to him.

I have asked Matthew to write a post about the role of an executive producer, so hopefully something will appear soon.

Producers Update
So here we are 3 weeks in and still alive. From a production point of view its been a tricky start, and its fair to say we haven’t had all the luck in the world.
From the outset it was never going to be easy. We have a fairly complicated shoot that we have to shoot on a 6 days a week, 6 week schedule. Some might say 6 days a week, 8 week schedule would’ve been more appropriate. Anyhoo we all love a challenge!
Schedule Day 13 - unlucky for some
Our heroic crew worked unbelievably hard in very difficult environments in Peeblesshire and we left feeling very proud of our achievements in the first 2 weeks. So it was a huge blow to find out that arguably our toughest day of all had to be re-shot.
Stuntwoman gets rescued
Us at the loch at Glen House
Re-Scheduling a day like that is a massive undertaking. Firstly we have to see if the location can fit us in and that has to hopefully marry up with Actors availability not to mention when we can physically fit it into our already bulging schedule on a day that we would need the weather will be the same as it was then! As you can see there are a number of difficult variables! Once that is sorted we have to revert to country mode which means, booking off-road vehicles, marquees, Honeywagons (Bogs on wheels), Caterers, Stuntmen, Divers, extra runners/location assistants etc. etc. It also means we’ll need to book 60 rooms at our old friend and, I like to think, one of the crew, The Macdonald Cardrona Hotel.
It’s a good job we’re all such positive thinkers, as we reckon we’ll get even better stuff the 2nd time round and it’ll actually be a blessing in disguise.
Last Monday, our first day at the Caledonian Hotel, we had some visitors to set. Matthew Sanders from our Publicists, Macdonald and Rutter, came up with some boys from Special Treats (Company doing our EPK/Making of video). They did some Cast/Crew interviews. We also had Andrew Orr and Ana Ayesta from Independent Film Sales (our International Sales Company), Lee from Buena Vista International (our UK Distributor, and last but certainly not least our friend and esteemed executive Producer, Matthew Justice.
Gillian Berrie (Producer), Neil Davidson (Stills)
They all came up to say hello, see what we were up to, and start working out our early Marketing strategy etc. They sifted through Neil Davidson’s (unit Photographer) stills and were all in agreement that its all looking very cool indeed.
One of the best things about being in the Edinburgh part of our shoot is that we have started getting some of the other cast members in.
Last week we had Ewen Bremner in, whose scenes are going to be very funny, and we’ve now had our old friend Jamie Sives (Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself). It’s great to see the other characters coming alive.
The vibe with the crew at the moment is great, we seem to be finding a good rhythm now and apart from the stressful peaks that are inevitable, the futures bright.

A word on Sigma Films
Sigma films was formed in 1996 by Gillian Berrie and David and Al Mackenzie. Initially energies were concentrated on the production of short films, Gillian Berrie and David Mackenzie collaborated on several award winning productions, including 'California Sunshine' and 'Somersault'. In 2001 Sigma produced David Mackenzie's debut feature film 'Last Great Wilderness' and went on to develop and associate produce David's second feature 'Young Adam'.

Wicksters!
It's a wonderful thing to be here at last making this film. Four years ago Sigma bought the option to turn Peter Jinks' excellent novel into a moving image. The development process has been a labour of love with Ed Whitmore and David Mackenzie grafting away to bring us the screenplay we're now shooting. Gillian Berrie (The Producer), David, his brother Al and I are delighted to have gathered this fantastic Cast and Crew together to do this.
Over the coming weeks, Gillian and I will continue to keep you as informed as we can on Productions' role and view of all things Foe.
Go Hallam go!
