Jamie Bell, funny as ever
Great little quote from Jamie on the Starpulse entertainment news blog...
"After this I'll be called the nipple-circling dress-wearer or Rat Boy." read the rest of the article

Match Ups
OK, so this is not the most cerebral post I could have written but it's the weekend and why not have something frivolous for a change.
Click the link and fritter away your time voting for our boy, he's losing at the moment but the fight can still be won!

Ewen & Jamie
Another photo from our time in Edinburgh today.

Andy (Ewen Bremner) and Hallam Foe (Jamie Bell)
This shot was taken on April 18th, the day Angus (Associate Producer) Pigott posted his Producer's Update. Sophia had also been with us for a week so the production was getting pretty settled in Edinburgh.
Here are the posts from that day:

Flags of Our Fathers
The latest of Mr. Bell in the press, an article here, from the Independent again, about JB's forthcoming release, Flags of Our Fathers.
Here's a quote to whet your appetite, but I recommend the rest of the article...
After King Kong and Flags of Our Fathers, Hallam Foe must have been quite a contrast. "It is financially," says Bell, "but money has never been a major attraction for me to do anything. The most important thing for me during these years, from the age of 17 until now, has just been about discovering who I am as an actor, working with some interesting people, and just trying to make my mark. And the thing all the films I've done have in common is that the director has a great passion. I go into meetings with some film-makers and they literally have nothing to say, they're almost bored by their own material. I'd rather work with people who are very passionate and very animated about what they want to do. People who just want to tell stories."

The Demon Drink
It seemed appropriate to follow up the previous posts with a shot like this.

Kate Breck (Sophia Myles) and Hallam Foe (Jamie Bell)
May 5th was another one of those days where the weather truly came into it's own. Having spent the previous few days with a massive rain rig and flooding out the Waverley basin ourselves we were then confronted with this... (click here deluges video)

Duet
Todays shot is of Verity and Julius plaing a duet on the old joanna. Simple enough to achieve at first glance but we actually went to a lot of effort to get this just right. For a good month before hand I was liasing with Matt Biffa to find the kind of music that David Mackenzie was after for the scene.

Verity (Claire Forlani) and Julius Foe (Ciaran Hinds)
After the exhaustive search there was a good deal of serious practical stuff to overcome too (the first bit of music we got hold of was a duet alright, but for two pianos, not just two people.)

Sophia Myles as Kate Breck in Hallam Foe
The photo was taken on 2nd May, unfortunately there is nothing to link to from that day as it was the day after I broke my arm and I was feeling more than a little sorry for myself not to mention fairly zoned out with pain.
However we were in the transition from Edinburgh to our studio (giant engineering shed) in Renfrew on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The Sniffles?
It seems that nearly everyone I know is beginning to be touched by that pre-Christmas bug - no doubt a combination of weather and the seasonal increase in intimacy. So todays shot is reminiscent of the sniffles, the common cold, or man-flu.
The day this was taken we were in the throes of becoming ensconced at Glen House (aka Chanby Hall), the crew were finding their rhythm and beginning to get into the swing of things. I remember it as being quite a tough time: communication being one of the toughest aspects of working there, 3 phone lines for a team of around 80 people all used to the convenience of having their own phone available for use without interruption.

Daily photo
The third shot of the inaugural day of 'the daily photo release' is one of Ewen Bremner. Ewen brings a brilliant performance to the character of Andy in the film, always a highlight in any film as fans of Ewens' will already know.

Up the wall
Just to warn you, this post has two bits of video of Jamie at climbing school so the page may take a little time to download.
Enjoy.

In order to prep for the role of Hallam Jamie had to do a wee bit of training. This was primarily more to satisfy H&S (health & safety) than anything else.
Here's a wee vid of Jamie at the climbing centre.

Foe face paint
All the photos are back from the artistes and we have a number that have been approved. Over the coming months you'll see these beginning to appear in the press in the lead up to release. Now, I imagine some of the shots we have will be needed for exclusives, but in the main I will try and make the debut of each picture here on the blog, after all you guys have been with us the longest so why shouldn't you get the first glimpses. The trickle will be slow to start with but as we near the big day we'll be releasing more and more stuff - photos, videos from the set, virals...

Hallam Beyond The Film....
Although the people filming and documenting my life have moved on.....
I remain Hallam Foe, and I'll always be watching!
Constantly thinking of ways to avenge my mother. Thinking of a way to give my stepmother what she truly deserves.
I will never rest, I will never stop watching and peeping. Climbing and jumping. Thinking and plotting.
For I am, Hallam Foe. So fuck you...

Hallam's new pal
Jamie really does suffer for his art. After scaling the rooftops of Edinburgh and being thrown in the freezing Scottish waters we thought he deserved a treat... ...a new friend perhaps.
Welcome to the big city Hallam Foe.

Hallam sleeps with rat on face
We haven't had many animals in this film, in fact we've only had one live one. They can be tricky things to deal with on a set, which, as you can see from some of the photos, are not necessarily the easiest of places to work in the first place. Animals nearly always come from specialists who provide all kinds of creatures to movies from flies to rats to chimps to elephants. In this instance we got our friend the rat from Amazing Animals, who are based in Chipping Norton, which seems like an awfully long way to go for a rat if you ask me.
Here's a picture of DM with our posthumous animal star.

Second week in the city
Sophia has survived her first week on the set and just begun her second. Now well established as part of the gang maybe we should start calling her 'Mylesie'.
Shooting here coincides with the UK release of Tristan & Isolde, so Sophia's name is in lights everywhere we go - bus stops, cinema's, magazines etc etc etc. I've counted no fewer than 3 front covers in the last week...
The start of the second week is not an easy one for our stars. I don't think any actors would find it particularly easy to do todays scenes. The nature of these scenes means they have to be well rehearsed and choreographed and are difficult things to shoot. It's a 'closed set' though, so no shots for the blog.

Coincidence
I am in the process of showing Ciaran the site over a couple of pints in the hotel bar after a long day in the weather, and the loch. We decided to look at the comments and there was a brand new comment ripe for approval from Lori. So here's a little bit of journalistic proof for you, taken at 21.33 on my mobile phone is a snap of myself, Marc the production runner and the man himself, Ciaran Hinds...

There will be lots more on Ciaran, but here's a quote from him for now, "Cheers big ears"

The Actors

Actors require headshots, these go to casting directors and agents who then show them to their clients (producers, directors etc) as part of the initial stages of casting for film, tv and theatre.
Here are the ones we have of our cast:

Jamie Bell - Hallam Foe

Sophia Myles - Kate Breck

Ciaran Hinds - Julius Foe
I have been asked to remove Claire's headshot, I'll get another.
Claire Forlani - Verity Foe

Jamie Sives - Alasdair

Carl And Jenny
...Guess what I interrupted today?

From the vantage point of my treehouse, I was trying to conquer the mechanics of a 5-pin padlock, when I heard voices approaching. With my binochulars I peered down to find our gardener Carl and his sleazy, trashy pick-up Jenny. He's constantly trying to get in her knickers.
I observed her presenting herself to him, hanging from one of the supporting wires of the treehouse. She then went on to say my mother was a "nutter!" and I was surprised when I heard that Carl agreed with her. I wanted to spit on them, rain flem from the tree tops.
Suddenly there was a crash and a tumble and they began eating at each other, tearing at clothes. Jenny straddled him, pinning him to the leaves and the mud, she then removed her shirt.
An idea came to me.
I removed my shirt too, drew two circles around my nipples with my mothers lipstick, so I had breasts aswell. I slipped on my badger pelt and slowly crept down to the lower level of the treehouse.
Carl now had his flies unzipped and he groaned as Jenny rode away on top of him, their momentum building, her knee's gathering dirt and bit's of twig. I strapped myself on to the strong supporting wire and jumped, flying down it like a wild animal, like Tarzan. Screaming out, Badger pelt straight as an arrow, claiming this sacred ground as my own. I crashed into them at the bottom, landing in a heap with limbs flailing everywhere. Jenny didn't take it too well, she stumbled around reaching for her clothes, trying to cover her pale chest the best she could. She then took a swing and kicked me right in my left knee with the toe of her boot and then dissapeared into the thick of the wood, With her clothes trailing behind her. Carl squared off with me and said that I should watch out for her Brother but I was more concerned about my pelt. Poor thing had dirt in it's eyes and teeth. Carl stormed off in a rage shouting for Jenny, leaving me naked from the waist up with circles around my nipples and victorious in protecting my territory and my late mother's honour.

My Mum Anne...

Mum
Oh come back, come back, sweet Anne Sarah Foe...
The Loch is filth ridden, it's icy and cold...
Swim back, swim back, my Anne Sarah Foe...
Your nightgown wore thin as you cried in your boat...
Row back, row back, sweet Anne Sarah Foe...
My Oak tree is sick, it bears a great hole...
Climb up, climb up, my Mum Sarah Foe...
The "Witch" now denies it, she buried your soul...
Please fight, please fight, come back claim your home...
Without you I'm lost and I'm just Hallam Foe...
I miss you, I love you, my Mum, Anne Sarah Foe.

Hallam Foe

I am HALLAM FOE...
I saw her fucking my dad. Taking him in her stride, clawing at his neck. It repulses me.
I want to finger her. Prod at her. Tell her who's boss!

photo: Neil Davidson
As much as it pains me to say it, part of me wants to spoon with her and eat at her neck. All the while thinking of a way to break it. My dad finished, quickly inhaling through his sweaty, bushy nostrils. Verity pulled down her thin blue dress and raised her knicker's from her ankles.
