Who'd have thunk it?

Quite unbelievably the TypeKey process of leaving a comment on the blog actually works! This is a source of great delight for me as it spells the end of bloody irritating spam and the several hours it takes to work through all that junk.

Of course there is a downside to this technological breakthrough in that the less tech savvy amongst you reading this blog are probably thinking that there is now an impenetrable convoluted commenting system that alienates you from the commenting process. I am guessing, of course, but I know how I feel when I come up against some seemingly pointless system.

If you feel like commenting but feel daunted by the system then here is a step-by-step guide to navigating this new addition to the blog:

1. Get a TypeKey account. It's very simple, just click here.

2. Once you've done that as long as you are signed in to TypeKey you should be able to leave a comment and it will be posted automatically and immediately.

Now you can't say that isn't simple.

Colin,

Thanks for your efforts to explain TypeKey in a user-friendly way! One question: Can you do something to change the font?

Posted by: Phygent - Bellgium [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2007 5:08 PM

That's my pleasure, it looks like you obviously found the info helpful.

The font - I take it you don't like the new font? The reason there is a new font id because this matches the font on the Sigma website and I'm trying to bring things in line a bit.

Courier is the font that British scripts are written in, hence the decision to have it here and on the Sigma website.

If there are a significant number of complaints about the new font I'll change it but until then I'm afraid it will remain as it is. Tinkering about with the code for this thing takes me a considerable amount of time so while you are in the vocal minority I'm afraid this is the script - so to speak.

There are only three other commenters though so if you can persuade them to get on your side I'll change the font.

OK - I did the typepad thing - is it me or are we all accumulating an enormous amount of accounts & passwords in our lives these days?

Now - I wasn't going to say anything - but since Phygent has opened the door, as it were, what a startling - and I mean Startling! - neon red! The startlingly bright yellow of the Foe days took a bit of getting used to - and now neon red! Yikes!

But, I guess I can adjust! As for the font - a nice change from the Times/New Roman favored on my side of the Atlantic.

Well it WORKS! Yay!
As I can see, not everyone is pleased with this new layout.. but I like both the red background and the font! (sorry Phygent:))

Colin, Anna and Helegis,

I was only referring to a study of Bernard e.a. (2002). He investigated how online text affects reading performance by examining the actual and perceived readability of four computer-displayed typefaces. Comic Sans MS, Arial and Times New Roman typefaces were found to be more readable than Courier New.
But I undersand Colin’s point. And therefore, I rest my case.

Not sure if anyone is still around to read this, but about this time last year Colin had that fun idea on making the Foe family Christmas script. Along with the many things I've learned about the process of film making, it is also the random, offbeat, yet cool and interesting things like that which always keep me reading this blog. Cheers to you Colin, David, Jamie and all at Family Foe/Sigma for all you've given us this past year, and to the great things in store for next year and beyond. Peace health and happiness to you and yours this holiday! Merry Christmas! xxx
