Hallam Foe - FanMail from Nic Roeg
Dear David Mackenzie,
I saw your movie 'Hallam Foe' last Sunday and I have to tell you my wife and I both loved it. Congratulations. It is wonderfully directed, beautifully shot and superbly acted. Every performance had truth in it. Flawless. Jamie Bell and Sophia Myles should be practicing some Oscar thank-you speeches right now. I'm sorry to go on about it so much but it's rare and exciting to see something so fresh and original.
Wow!! This man is a master. Some of his films rank among THE BEST FILMS EVER MADE! (see below)
And he wrote that to me! Thank you Nic.

David, what an honour to get such a personnal hommage from the man himself!
Like ‘Hallam Foe’ most of Roeg' movies are not conventional: more to do with mood and effect, less with strict narrative logic. But Roeg always succeeds to present the life of his sometimes weird characters as unexceptional. He simply never makes an issue of it.
And what I particularly like are the multiple questions Roeg raises in his movies.
Nicolas Roeg and David Mackenzie, two names standing for directional brilliance!

This Roeg chappie seems to have good taste. He agrees with me.

Wow. While I've only seen "Walkabout," "The Man who Fell to Earth," and heh "The Witches," it seems to me this man certainly knows what he is talking about with reference to originality and quality.
Acknowledgment from ones peers and colleagues is always a very nice thing, but this is very cool that distinguished members of your industry like this feel your work is deserving of this praise! Bring on the audiences and many awards for Hallam Foe, and someday too, there will be an Oscar for you David! :)

I'm speachless, it's unbelievable. It's such an honour to be praised by someone so talented!!!
(it's not a joke, right? It's just that Nicolas Roeg is like an Olympian to me, so I.. you know.. can't type anymore)
