Flame Halo - lets make a movie
I am currently working on an idea as a christmas gift for the readers of the blog. I am trying to solicit ideas from people who worked on the production, fans of the blog and anyone who has an interest in Hallam Foe for ideas to include in a script about Christmas Day in the Foe household.
At the moment the idea starts on Christmas Eve. The current characters are Hallam, Verity and Julius. So far these are the only parameters to the story and anything and everything is up for grabs. So if you have any ideas and want to see them in a script then post them in a comment and I will include then into the writing process.
The way I am doing this is when the ideas come in I will collate them all and try and weave them all into a story. There will have to be some editing process but I will try and cram in as much as possible. The ideas can be structural, character driven, just something you want to see one of the characters do, a costume note, a prop you want to see included or basically whatever you want. The scope is limitless.
I just wish I'd had this idea about a month ago so we could all have a bit of time to put it together. But what they hey! It sounds fun to me.
Now in terms of making the script into a film it seems to me that there are limitless ways of doing this too. You could shoot single scenes (family make great actors and just shoot the carol singers in your locale and suffer the consequence of not getting a release form at a later date!), single shots even, you needn't have to edit it all together because I can do that if you want, or you can fully go to town make a whole production out of it - write your own music, the whole hog.
Basically, it's like a collective film school where we all contribute to the process. All ideas are valid.
It's sort of Todd Solonds approach to casting in Palindromes but done with the whole process instead.
OK! I'm off to get on with my bits of the script. Hopefully hear from you all soon.
And remember, it doesn't matter how small the idea is, even the tiniest gem will be appreciated and pored over.
ADDENDUM Email from Lee Thomas of Lunar Films:
Absolutely genius idea.Perhaps pose a question about Hallam for the audience/reader to ask – the perennial ‘Who is Hallam Foe?’
Specify that video (youtube/revver) clips are preferred, but stills (from Digital camera) or the third act to the mini script, or storyboards are accepted.
Don’t hold back on the production value of the mini-script – allow others to interpret and perhaps deliver frankly astonishing results. A great way for people to bring their family/friends into family foe.

Nice, so my ideas count double eh?
It doesn't matter who you can get to play the roles, you could be Hallam yourself or perhaps Julius or Verity. I have a few great action figures that would double up great for Julius and Verity, now i just need to find my Hallam.
I'm sure the readers will have some interesting ideas... perhaps Hallam wrote all this down in a little diary with pictures.
I wonder what that would look like?

Woot! How FUN-great idea! :)
hmmm, with holidays you always have those big family meals right? Being from the South here in the States, and knowing all too well about Ladies Who Lunch type women (cue Sondheim!)Verity strikes me as one of these women who would like to put on a big production at holidays (and later drone on about it over tea while playing bridge or something tedious) so I can clearly imagine a scene where she feels that she must make some sort of grand meal or dish that she can brag about later (here in the states we always have some sort of mysterious casserole that no one ever knows what precisely it is, but you are forced to endure and try it politely or face the evil eye from your mom or something LOL)
Anyway I can completely see her trying something outrageously elaborate but turn out to be an utter disaster, or heh maybe Hallam slips something wretched into that soup -anyway a minor moment, but theres always humor to be found at the dinner table, so this would be definitely cool to include in the script somehow I think..
Also do you suppose Hallam would enjoy wearing one of those hats from those Cracker things y'all have? LOL Plus no doubt Verity would regale them with some sort of nerve grinding excerpt from Handel's Messiah or something -dunno. I shall ponder on this all- soo fun! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Sorry to lower the tone, but I'm sure Hal would do something disgusting with the turkey :-o
... a raw turkey, hacked open sprawled over the antique dining room table with the words "murdering bitch" spelled out with the giblets /chipolatas/ brussel sprouts.
if it's used, I wanna cut ;-)

Is it maybe time Hallam loved himself? A reflection in the mirror? a dream? How nice is it when you look in the mirror with confidence and you know your looking good. its a great feeling... but what if that feeling became a little obsessive? and he fell in love with himself? whole new film there matey!!
I got the idea from a friend of mine, who had a dream he had sex with himself... there was an identical of him in his room and he fell in love... I wanted to write it into an independant film, but I dont have the time... what with school etc.
Hae a think Colin... Maybe?
Merry Christmas all x
