Closing down for Xmas
Well I think this will be my last blog before Xmas and the penultimate one of the year. Where I am going internet access is pretty crappy to say the least and there certainly won't be a great deal happening in the office that I am aware of.
That said, please do keep sending in ideas for Flame Halo as I will continue working towards something for Xmas day and will make a wee trip to post the script. It is proving quite difficult to pull all these disparate strands into a coherent story - the end result may be a little surreal -but it's a bit of fun so I'm not going to worry about writing a masterpiece, just something engaging, touching, dark and hopefully funny. No pressure.
Best wishes to you all for Christmas and I hope you celebrate like the Scots for New Year.
From us all at Hallam Foe, have a wonderful time x

Hi, seems like I've just missed all the fun with the Flame Halo film idea.. But if it's not too late I'll try to tink on that subject, too.
We have Xmas AFTER the NY, so no vacations for me yet. We're having exams :(((
So, Merry Christmas to everyone, and.. is it ok to say 'Happy Hogmanay'?

Oh Colin
I love all the work you did here trying to get this script together, and for all the work you have done on the blog all year long to be honest. It's been such a joy, SUCH a very interesting, wonderful and cool thing to be able to read this blog and follow the making of Hallam Foe this year; THANK YOU for all your efforts here (and to the other bloggers as well) I've truly honestly and completely enjoyed it-can't wait to see what the next year has in store, and most of all to see this film!
Here's wishing you and the entire Family Foe a joyful peaceful happy holiday! Merry Christmas! :)
xxx

Hi again. I know it's probably too late, but the whole idea is so funny, so I couldn't help wrighting.. I hope you'll be able to find something useful in what I've written.
You know, in Russia Xmas has always had a lot in common with pagan winter solstice celebrations (just like your Hogmanay, for ex.) - e.g. Saturnalia, scandinavian Yule and, you know, looked a bit like Halloween, actually. Lads and maidens dressed in costumes would be the carol singers going door-to-door and asking for the treats.. And the evil spirits were trying to do something nasty at the end of the year (for the year account). And there is also a tradition of 'Christmas divination' - when young girls try to predict whether they'll get married during the next year and who'll be the groom. The idea is, that there are some ways to call evil spirits and make them show you your 'wedding future' during these days. For example, you can call a spirit to have a dinner with you in a dark room or you can use candles and mirrors to build an endless corridor of reflections - a he'll come to your table or appear in the mirror looking like your future groom. As soon as he appears you must chase him away, otherwise.. (I don't know what exactly would happen otherwise..)
SO, I thought that, perhaps, we could bring some heathen magic into the story? I know that Hallam is not a maiden who wants to get married, but he is definitely a very eccentric
person. Who could do something like putting on the make-up and climb up the Christmas pine tree to get into his treehouse.
As he comes in, he finds himself in the living room instead of the treehouse. And then he starts to do something to call his mother's ghost. And somebody appears. Somebody is getting down the chimney saying 'ho ho ho' with a quite low female voice. And whoever the visitor is, he or she looks like a raw turkey.. Hallam (who wants to do something NASTY with both the turkey and Anne) puts the turkey into his sack and gets into the chimney.. and starts climbing up. He finds himself climbing up inside the pine tree. After having climbed for a while he starts to hear the Verity's voice from above. He keepsclimbing up.
Verity, wearing a witch costume, is in the dining room. Julius is also there, dressed as a troll. Verity is very angry, because he has to cook and eat the turkey and the turkey is gone. It's doubtful that she (the turkey) could run away or escape through the chimney..
Hallam has climbed up and attempts to get out of the chimney and it turns out that he is hanging in the chimney upside down and then he falls into the fireplace in front of Verity and Julius. They seem to be surprised and Verity asks if he saw Anne.. the turkey.. Hallam realises that Verity and Julius don't cast shadows and that the whole place is strange.. Like it's situated in the underground village and the castle is a huge pine tree turned upside down. He attempts to escape through the chimney and Verity tries to catch him and chases him when he runs through the door.. and falls from the tree. Into the chimney. And then into the fireplace. He gets out of the fireplace and nobody's following him.. He builds a fire.
Later he's burying the bones of the roasted turkey under the Christmas tree. And goes away.

Helge - Wow. That is certainly some surreal stuff. I have included elements of what you have written in the script so far (I'm just about to post it after I've done my admin) but not everythiong. Of course, if you are going to go and shoot some stuff then you cann interpret the script any way you like so the3 way you construct the scenes could have a hugely surreal edge. I have also included a dream sequence so there is real scope there to go as wild as you like.

Colin - thanx for including anything oh that crazy stuff in the script (it was the Xmas day and I was not responsible for what I was wrighting) - but, you know, something funny has happened since then. I didn't even expect that the whole Xmas joke idea would drive me so far, but seems like now I DO have some idea of making a surreal fairy tale out of it.. I mean, now I have the story finished and stucturised.. I find this really funny - for I had no plans to have written a surreal fairy tale. So you know, THANK you for the huge work you are doing putting those things together and more for the inspiration you gave to everyone with that Flame Halo idea!
And again I wish you a great Hogmanay celebration and a happy New Year.
