Poor head, happy heart
Geek Dinner Guest List Wiki - i.e. how to see who was there, have a look at what they think and get in touch.
Thump, thump, thump, thud, thump.
My head is made solidly of aching plasticine. The heady cocktail of Directors ale, Zubrowka and overly generous quantities of Stormhoek having set my brain like the heaviest jelly ever made.
Last night we had the Hallam Foe Geek Dinner and the first public airing of the film. Understandably, David was a little nervous beforehand. Showing your film to people outside the inner sanctum of people connected to the film for the first time is hard enough, let alone a film that isn't actually finished.
I too was a little nervous, this is the first time I have mingled with my peers of the blogosphere and I was in intimidating company, some of the most prominent bloggers in the country were coming along to see our film and talk about the role that blogging can play in this crucial stage of the process.
As it turns out our fears were misplaced and a gathering of about 30 or so bright, savvy, inspirational people got together and chatted about things they are passionate about, ate food and drank wine. So while I have been left with a poor head, I have a happy heart.
A big thank you from us all at Sigma Films to those who came along last, below are the addresses of their sites:
Gia, Lloyd Davis, Johnnie Moore, James Cherkoff, Steve Clayton, Euan and Penny Semple, Annie Mole, Lucy Hutchings, Sarah Blow, Katie Ledger, Ian Forrester, James Governor, Jackie Danicki, Iain Tait, Adriana Lucas, JP Rangaswami, Malcolm Dick, Sean Park, Suw Charman, Sam Sethi, Lee Thomas, Simon Dunstan and Dan Light, Tom Reynolds, Hugh Macleod
I have some video footage which I will cut together over the weekend as a wee sample of the evening for y'all and post it Monday.

Thanks for a really great night Colin. The film is really good on lots of levels - and I'm not just saying that. My head feels about the same if it makes you feel any better!

My head is slowly coming back to life. Great to hear you liked the movie, I think DM has done an outstanding job and we do seem to be coming to the end of the process with something pretty special on our hands in my opinion.
Here's to the future!

Hallam Foe + DM + Colin = Hangover, lack of cigarettes, new friends & a palpable eagerness to see Hallam finished and out there. x

Hi Colin
Thanks for a fantastic evening. The film was wonderful and now I just want to see every city from the rooftops. I understand the nerves of showing it but at the end of the day were totally unjustified. Please keep me posted about future screenings and if there's anyway I can help in the future.
Cheers

I'm so pleased you liked the film. It was lovely to meet you, even though briefly, especially having listened to your interview on Radio 4. I'll happily keep you informed of future things happening with the film.

thanks for a great evening. I really enjoyed the film for many reasons, not least Jamie Bell's acting but also seeing the Balmoral and Caledonian hotels which I have fond memories of. I also really enjoyed the way it was shot - I don't know much about film making and I guess some of the more rough shots may be edited/removed but in the same way a blog stands on it's own with spelling mistakes and personality I'd love to see some of that raw, rough cut type element kept in. Not for cheezy effect as seen in some movies but just in places.
and finally, the swan on the lake scene. Loved it :)

The film will retain elements of 'roughness', it's an important part of getting across that energy of Hallam I think. I'm sure David will leave a comment on this.
Glad you had a great time.

So very lovely to meet you all last night. It's a brilliant film. Last night I described it as 'A love letter to Edinburgh, in the way 'Lost in Translation' was a love letter to Tokyo.'
All of the performances were excellent and Jamie Bell is quite frankly fucking brilliant...even so, the biggest star for me was the city.

great time. solid movie.
Gia - funny you should say that. i felt one think it wasn't was a film that made the city the star. it didnt feel like a love letter to Edinburgh, which was actually what i was expecting....
