Shrigley notes

David Shrigley on camera

We have just had David Shrigley in to do some shots. He has been doing some writing for Hallam's notebooks. David (S) is also doing an animted title sequence for the film so the two will tie in nicely together and give Hallam some more connection with the sequence. The overall effect will be one of getting closer to Hallam, more in his head, and that's what we want.

There have also been discussions about adding some colour to the title sequence. If this happens I'll post another version.

Collin...Danny here (Jamies Mate) Just checking the site, as one does, keeping the support alive. I just wanted to pass on a quick message to everyone, just to say thank you all so much for looking after me whilst I was in glasgow. Ensuring Kim was dropped off at the station and I was welcomed into the hallam foe world.

What I have seen so far and what I have been told about the movie only makes my anticipation stronger (I cant wait to see what you guys have done) David inspired me the short time I was there. watching him work, watching him think and even watching him watching the monitor screen during takes was something I will never forget. He is a passionate man and has been blessed with something I can only describe as special. Everyone I met over the weekend were brilliant and I felt at ease very quickly. Shame I never got to see the stuff that was shot prior to my visit. Keep me updated if you have time... with whats new etc.

I hope to see you guys again soon. no doubt congratulating everyone on the success of the movie... Thanks again for making my visit a visit i will never forget... Danny... Oh by the way i think my jeans are ready to be thrown in the bin, the hole is now too big!

It was our pleasure mate, all the best and we'll see you soon I'm sure. Best of luck with the acting career.

Hi, Colin! I haven't dropped by this site in quite a long time. Been busy at home -- having the exterior of our house torn out and re-sided with new cedar shingles and clapboards (yes, in America, houses are all wooden, inside and out), and then repainted.

Since August 31, though we've been bopping around the UK. Rye, London, Cambridge, Yorkshire, and now Edinburgh. In fact, I'm typing this on my laptop from the Caledonian Hotel!!

Great to see that this blog is doing so well. We're going to go brave the rain and do some sight-seeing in this beautiful city and tonight I'll do some catching up on the blog.

Go Hallam!

Wow! Return of the prodigal fan. I thought you'd lost interest. Well, I'm glad you've made it to Edinburgh, pity it's such a foul day, but we have lots of those as you know. If you want to go visit some places that are in the film on your day touring then you should go to the Beluga Bar, the Grassmarket, Cockburn Street and North Bridge. Although we shot the film in the Caledonian Hotel, when you see the film you'll notice that it would appear to be set in the Balmoral hotel, so you should take a look at that, a true bohemuth of Victorian architecture.

Have fun in Edinburgh, and welcome back to the blog.

Thanks for the advice, Colin. We're going to head out again this evening for a bit and we'll check those places out. Shame you're not in Edinburgh tonight: I'd buy you a beer! :-)

Sorry I'm not there, it would have been fun to hook up. Maybe next time. Enjoy Edinburgh, you could do worse than go to the Villager on George IV bridge where David, Angus, Jamie and I used to go for the odd pint or two.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Villager! Had a couple of pints there and some food, too. Great crowd and the staff is very nice. Can't say the same about the one waitress we met outside the Beluga Bar on her nicotine break. Anyway I'll upload some pictures soon.

colin kennedy
The Beluga bar was used as a location rather than a haunt, that was the only reason for reccommendation, I have no idea what it's like to go for a drink in. By the sounds of things, not very good!

I HEART David Shrigley and am so very excited that he's doing the titles. How far along are they? Will we get to see them at the London bloggers preview (which I'm v v excited about, I have to say)?

colin kennedy
There are some frames from DS's proposal in the titles at the moment but the animation has not been completed yet.

You will be seeing an incomplete version of the film as you know, this really is a very early screening in comparison with what people would normally be able to see in the course of making a film, so not all the elements will be completely in place.

Hey Colin, those look really cool and interesting. have you seen a movie called "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" they have a similar sequence during the song, "Origin Of Love" which has drawing mixed in with live action, it is really interesting. You can see it on youtube if you search for it. Later, Jeremy

colin kennedy
Thanks for that Jeremy, I'll look it up later, or you can post a link to it in the comments if you want.

For great use of animation in a film you should also check out Americxan Splendour, an all-time great without doubt.

Hey, here is a link to the part of the movie on youtube.com. I hope you enjoy it, it is one of my top 10 movies and has amazing music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hBWa3n0_-Q
Later, Jeremy

Great piece, I'll have to watch the whole movie.
